Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Volcanic Website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Volcanic Website:

  1. Language switcher (3rd Party): The language switcher in the header is generated by the WPML plugin. The control that expands the language list is an element with no interactive role, to which the plugin applies ARIA attributes that this role does not support (aria-expanded, aria-haspopup and aria-controls), and its accessible name does not contain the text of the visible label. This affects WCAG success criteria 2.5.3 Label in Name and 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value, and may prevent the control from responding to speech recognition software. This markup cannot be changed from the plugin settings, and the vendor plans to correct it in a future release. We plan to override its output to give the control a native button role and an accessible name starting with the visible label, in an upcoming update. Meanwhile, the links for all three languages are operable with a keyboard and with a screen reader, and you can also switch language by editing the address: no prefix for Catalan, /es/ for Spanish and /en/ for English.
